Poem
Let me take a moment and sing you a song
For the many days you’ve carried on with your cross
You have kept on bold and strong
Contemplated suicide, and some days wanted a one-night stand
To ease your pain or fill the void
With someone who’s wanted you
Just as much as you’ve wanted them
Just so you could look God in the face
Ask Him one more time
“Why did you make me this way?”
“Why is this not your kind of love?”
Sometimes you know He didn’t
Other times you wonder why He allowed sin
And you’d cry yourself a sea and sleep in it
Washed and waiting for the day the water will purify you
Make you the victor of this war of loves
But today
Just today
Let me celebrate the hero you are
In this story still unfolding
Like the waves of the Pacific
Stretching its shores into a beautiful new place
Making room for another island to be made in memory of you
You are the hero sailing on turbulent waters
With hope as your only compass
Traveling a road many do not understand yet condemn you for being chosen to take it
You are the hero swimming across many seas
And the blue of the waters making you a shade whiter
You will not drown
You will not die
You’ve not drowned
You’re not dead
The hero you are is in the choice you make each day
To honor Christ instead of your desire
To stick to glory instead of orgies
To stand instead of fall
For all who have stood
And made into crowns the thorns in your flesh
For all who have stood
And made into dancing the mourning of your soul
For all who have stood
And made into singing the sorrow of your pain…
You are the heroes
Standing tall in the Lamb’s army
Battered and bruised by every breath that reminds you that you are broken
Shattered by every voice that struck you with judgement
And by every eye that cast you out
But still standing
God’s underdog
Ridiculous in your uniform
But still standing
You are the heroes
For still standing
And for getting up still though you fall
Let me celebrate the hero you are
In this tale of a happy ending
Where you will see your Lord and King
Abreast with your pain and suffering because He died for you
He shall embrace you and take you into His chest
Wipe away every tear and surround you with love
Laugh over your shoulders and let it trickle down your spine
Whisper a poem He wrote for you
“Good and faithful servant”
And it will sound different
It will have the tone of your name in it
And the mood of the pain you endured
Will all metamorphose into a love song
It will all be worth it in that moment
It will all make sense when He appears
It is for Him you fight each day
It is for Him you must
Soldier on, heroes
For we have a Hero who’s gone ahead of us
See you, when we see Him.
